About

Jennifer Moore

I’m Jennifer Moore, an artist and designer based in Walnut Creek, California. I started Monaluna in 2010 out of a desire to bring more eco-friendly textile options to the marketplace for designers, sewists and quilters.

My formal education is in Anthropology, but after college I became curious about design, and I followed that curiosity into a career. I started out designing toys for Manhattan Toy, then worked as a surface designer at Target Corp., and finally moved (back) to the Bay Area to work for Pottery Barn Kids as a decorative accessories designer. I eventually began focusing on licensing my artwork for various products, including cotton fabric.

Around the same time, I began learning more about the textile industry, and specifically about the environmental and social impacts of cotton production, and the benefits of organic cotton. I realized how few options there were for sustainable fabrics at that time, and decided that if I were going to be working in the fabric industry, I wanted to find a more eco-friendly way to do it. It turned out that that meant launching my own business, and Monaluna was born.

I’ve now been designing fabrics for over 12 years, and have produced over 30 Monaluna fabric collections. All of our fabrics are certified by GOTS, or the Global Organic Textile Standards, which ensures that every step of the production meets strict social and environmental standards.

I’m often asked where I find my inspiration, and the truth is that I fuel my business creativity by exploring other creative endeavors that excite me, like puttering in my organic garden, making up recipes, launching myself into random DIY projects and hiking in the gorgeous hills near my house. I find joy in living creatively and sustainably, and I’d like to share that joy with you.
